Went to watch west end story in the Festival Theatre over the weekend. Its been years since I went to the theatre, last show I saw was a Robin Hood pantomime with the boys brigade in primary school.
The theatre its self was a decent size our seats unfortunately positioned near the back rows on the left hand side of the stage. Couldnt see the whole top of the set but enough to see what was going on, it was a full house. The curtain opened up and we were introduced to the rival gangs the Jets and the Sharks.
The performances were good especially the girls they did a great job. I guess I was expecting too much from the actual production the set was reused the entire play and became a bit boring to see after awhile, but probably done in our best interests to minimise the down time inbetween scenes. The lighting was really good, the dance scene had a golden simmer to it really well done. The orchestra also did a fantasic job.
The singing was good but sometimes had trouble with the diction, there was a couple of songs I was familiar with so had alittle sing along.
Story has been around for awhile so I kind of knew what to expect, there was a part where a gun was fired and loads of people around me jumped that made me chuckle.
Good show not totally blown away, it has however done enough to interest me in seeing more shows in the future.
